Self-Portrait #1

self-1

I titled it ‘Self-Portrait #1,’ as, well, it is.  First one.  I’ve done another one since, and I like what they do for me.  In terms of how I view myself, and how that changes.  They are significant for the artist in that.  I love Van Gogh’s self portraits, the energy he put into them.  He was on one, I tell ya.

Egon Schiele is another favourite of mine.  I bit one of his flyers from back in the day for one of my own.  It was a good show. good flyer.

This painting had two different owners.  The first traded it back in because her husband thought it was too intense for their home.  They got this cool fish pic I did.  The second snapped it right up, and it’s prominently displayed in his Seattle home.  It takes all kinds, which is great.

About Benjamin Allen Ellis

Some phoenix mythologies talk of the soul's hierarchy in terms of birds. The eagle being our pinnacle, the phoenix right below, constantly burning and dying and rebirthing in order to find itself born eagle. Since 2000, and my first public art show, I've used the Phoenix as a rallying cry for myself to take hold of what I want and keep 'rebirthing' until I get it. After eight years, it was time to consciously move on up. Hey - I'm goin' eagle.

I have to say I like self portrait #1 the best But that is probably because im a little biased because I have the first portrait hanging in my house. It is a great big picture that takes up that big wall. We looked for a long time and then one day walked into burnies in Anchorage and found it. Then i started looking at the artist and it was my good freind who did it. I was jumping for joy. I have always liked is paintings and this is the one i felt represented him the best. We shipped it back to seattle and All of our friends make great comments about it.
All i can say is keep doing what you do Ben your a real talanted person and a great freind.
