2 From the Vault

first-painting

This one is my first painting ever.  You know, besides the stuff along the way for school projects…  But as an artist, sitting down to paint, this is it.

It came out after my first trip to Europe.  Two months of France, Italy, Greece, Amsterdam, and England.  It just came out.  Maybe its time to head back over there.

My dear friend Carrie came in after it was finished and said ‘That’s mine.’  So it is.  It’s up on her office wall, and it’s big too.  A good 4 x 6 feet.

threshhold

The second belongs to Carrie’s bff Meghan, who is a totally good friend, rad person, and frickin’ brilliant.

I called it ‘Thresh-Hold,’ and its up on Meghan’s wall in Bogota, Colombia.

This didn’t come out as easily as the first; it was a journey of decisions and almost mistakes then realizing, ‘ohh, I like it that way.’  Learning curve balls.

About Benjamin Allen Ellis

Some phoenix mythologies talk of the soul's hierarchy in terms of birds. The eagle being our pinnacle, the phoenix right below, constantly burning and dying and rebirthing in order to find itself born eagle. Since 2000, and my first public art show, I've used the Phoenix as a rallying cry for myself to take hold of what I want and keep 'rebirthing' until I get it. After eight years, it was time to consciously move on up. Hey - I'm goin' eagle.
