“Reinterpretation is the sincerest form of flattery.”
This piece I called Mignola, as a shout out to the artist that inspired it, Mike Mignola. He’s the creator of Hellboy, and my eyes have been keen on his art for many, many years.
Its just a small panel from one his comics, that’s where the character came from. A small panel. The look and feel changed as I worked on it, as creativity is wont to do. I’m just along for the ride.
This work is sold, btw.

About Benjamin Allen Ellis
Some phoenix mythologies talk of the soul's hierarchy in terms of birds. The eagle being our pinnacle, the phoenix right below, constantly burning and dying and rebirthing in order to find itself born eagle.
Since 2000, and my first public art show, I've used the Phoenix as a rallying cry for myself to take hold of what I want and keep 'rebirthing' until I get it. After eight years, it was time to consciously move on up. Hey - I'm goin' eagle.
