From The Vault: Sketchy Canvas

From way back in 2001, some images from a show I did with photographer Joseph Brazenfield.

21 bodies, hours spent up in people’s biz-ness.

And it was great, each person relaxing after awhile, trusting me and my chalks on their bodies.  That process of art, individual vibes and being in proximity actually serving to spread some sort of ‘high.’  People leaving with smiles on their faces, feeling good about the bodies they inhabit.

Most of the images here are of women, but the show consisted of a fairly even mix of the sexes.  Sadly, this is all I got.  Joseph has the originals, and he’s somewhere out there.

The show at Bernie’s was a wonderful success, too, with lines out the door.  There was even talk of taking the show to Chicago at some point.  I don’t know why Chicago, but someone there was interested.  It didn’t pan out, this time around.

About Benjamin Allen Ellis

Some phoenix mythologies talk of the soul's hierarchy in terms of birds. The eagle being our pinnacle, the phoenix right below, constantly burning and dying and rebirthing in order to find itself born eagle. Since 2000, and my first public art show, I've used the Phoenix as a rallying cry for myself to take hold of what I want and keep 'rebirthing' until I get it. After eight years, it was time to consciously move on up. Hey - I'm goin' eagle.
