A Show, A Show…

Java_Rama_1333_Park_St

A call at 9:30 am on Saturday and and within an hour I had my first solo Bay Area art show lined up… starting… the day before.  And on until the end of August.

Fortune shines on those who act, I read recently, so act I did; that Saturday took me to Berkeley, San Leandro, Oakland, SF, Alameda, back to Oakland, back to SF (this time Daly City) then back to Alameda to catch a little flick called Bruno (funny).  The meantime of the day was all about arranging to pick up whatever art I could in the Bay Area (hence the driving back and forth and such).

The show I’m building is at Javarama in Alameda; great coffee, great space, great town.  Alameda has a flavour all its own, Park Avenue has a charm that covers a lot of bases, from fancy linens to antiques to comics to amazing waffles.  It’s the spot.

And Javarama is right there on Park Ave, so get some coffee or tea or yummy cake.  The show will officially be on the beginning of August, the coming weeks until then will find me bringing together works that are currently shown elsewhere or have yet to premiere.  Works from the Sketchy Canvas series will be included too.

So check it, and hang out!

Good model, him.  Good friend.

I appreciate the patience of each person, and the trust.  To open up and be naked takes some guts, cuz the finished work is ultimately not about someone’s bits, you know, but the keen beauty of form, color on skin, and making art of it all.

Someone See’s Eyes…

hecben7_websave

A friend asked me about the hidden eyes in my work, and I’d like to see them…

That always excites me, when someone sees something I did or was a part of that I didn’t necessarily intend to happen.  That’s art; art is a type of mirror, and we all see different reflections.

I had the thought the other day, what it would be like to actually see the world through someone else’s eyes, whether or not it would actually look different from what I see.  With all the work and study done on the effect of our thoughts and emotions and lifestyles have on our bodies, you never know…

Sketchy canvas prints will be for sale before too long.  Robert has some good ones going up on his site, so check ‘em out!!  Thanks for all the visits!

Trees On Mountains

benhec5

Life is always, always good with art.  More of the Sketchy Canvas series.  This is the first duet I’d done with the concept.  Thanks for all the interest.

Prints are for sale, for those interested.  You can always email me at baglunchzine@gmail for that info, or just holler on facebook!  I love the way Robert and I are both evolving as artists with this project.  Great to see.

Work will be up tomorrow, at the Diego Rivera Gallery in SF.  Posting the images online has in no way done them justice.  Holler holler.

Trees Talk

postingtree

When I was a kid, we had these really cool birch trees in our yard.  I loved to study  them, examine how the paper bark peeled away in layers.  There was this one that grew in with a crazy lean, it was perfect for those stand-offs between G.I.Joe and Cobra, or a ninja prop.

That was the back yard.  The front had a few off to the side, I’d always make sure to water them when I was told to put the sprinkler out in the yard, usually finding a lady bug or two, learning what aphids looked like.  The light would play off those leaves when a wind rolled through….
