When I was a kid, we had these really cool birch trees in our yard.  I loved to study  them, examine how the paper bark peeled away in layers.  There was this one that grew in with a crazy lean, it was perfect for those stand-offs between G.I.Joe and Cobra, or a ninja prop.

That was the back yard.  The front had a few off to the side, I’d always make sure to water them when I was told to put the sprinkler out in the yard, usually finding a lady bug or two, learning what aphids looked like.  The light would play off those leaves when a wind rolled through….

Some phoenix mythologies talk of the soul's hierarchy in terms of birds. The eagle being our pinnacle, the phoenix right below, constantly burning and dying and rebirthing in order to find itself born eagle. Since 2000, and my first public art show, I've used the Phoenix as a rallying cry for myself to take hold of what I want and keep 'rebirthing' until I get it. After eight years, it was time to consciously move on up. Hey - I'm goin' eagle.
