March 8th is International Women’s Day. Who knew? Not me.
But now I do. And now I know that it’s a national holiday in Russia, China, Vietnam, Bulgaria and other countries around the world. The idea came about in 1910, at an International Conference of Working Women held in Copenhagen. Miss Clara Zetkin came up with the idea, and in 1911 it began.
Though at first I admit I slightly scoffed at the idea of there being a ‘women’s day,’ I got to thinking globally. Even in Colombia, women are not afforded the same rights as men. On paper, sure, but culturally there is still a glass ceiling present, and though I don’t hear too much anymore of it in the U.S., I know in some fields it is still there.
So, in that spirit, a whole new layer to ‘For my ladeeeeez.’
At 22, we are offering drink and food specials through the weekend.
There are no places in Santuario for color printing, hence the black and white.
I’m happy to know about this holiday, and celebrate it. I checked, Hallmark doesn’t make cards for the occasion, but you can get e-cards here.
Cheers.
