Dads of the world, good for talk

Winter-man Dad, whatta man, Dad…

I know that I’m lucky to have him in my corner.  He’s brave, faced down beliefs and reached for his son.  He knows honor and has taught it to me.

I came out when I was 22.  He was in Southern California, building a home.  I was in AK.  He flew up within the week, and took me out to dinner.  The Sourdough Mining Company.

I was nervous. He was nervous.  I finally said: “Ok, say it.  Say whatever you want to say.”

He asked me if this meant I was going to wear women’s clothes.

I said: “Noooo…”

He said: “Phew” and relaxed.

It’s been good.  And I’ve worn women’s clothes since that first real-face to real-face conversation.  In front of him. He was more comfortable than I; you ladies wear some uncomfortable threads at times.

I’m just sayin’…

About Benjamin Allen Ellis

Some phoenix mythologies talk of the soul's hierarchy in terms of birds. The eagle being our pinnacle, the phoenix right below, constantly burning and dying and rebirthing in order to find itself born eagle. Since 2000, and my first public art show, I've used the Phoenix as a rallying cry for myself to take hold of what I want and keep 'rebirthing' until I get it. After eight years, it was time to consciously move on up. Hey - I'm goin' eagle.

Ben, the show looks incredible. It’s great to see too how the new duplex looks (pre-move in, at least). Best to your dad as he gets it ready for living in. I hope he enjoys the space and that it serves a genuine home for him.

I have strong appreciation for your dad. I could feel it this winter when I visited you and got to see him briefly. He has the sort of groundedness, balance, honesty, reliability, and appreciation for those he loves that I appreciate in others, and that deserves to be adored. It is so good to know you have such a person in your life through him, because you are a wonderful person deserving of such support too. As I’ve said before, I am glad we have gotten to reconnect with each other and see how our lives have developed. Thank you here too for the reminder that there are such wonderful people (like you and your dad) in the world.

    Much love to you!
